What can be asked on WhatsApp

  • Partners and customers
  • Sales orders and quotations
  • Invoices
  • Inventory and product information
  • Purchasing data
  • Records of the modules installed in your database only

Access paths

  • External JSON-2 APIThe newer external API offered in current Odoo releases. Requests are sent with a JSON body and authorized with an API key.According to the documentation, external API access is available only on Custom pricing plans.
  • XML-RPCThe interface used in older releases to authenticate and call model methods. On Odoo Online, the user needs a local password assigned.External API access is limited to Custom plans.
  • JSON-RPCAn older interface that works much like XML-RPC. The legacy RPC interfaces are planned for removal in later releases; check the current documentation.

Worth knowing

  • External API access depends on the pricing plan; it is stated as unavailable outside Custom plans. Whether this applies to a self-hosted Community install could not be verified; please confirm with Odoo or your partner.
  • The version determines the connection route: older releases use XML-RPC/JSON-RPC only, and these interfaces are marked for removal.
  • API keys can be time-limited and must be renewed; a separate bot user with only the required permissions is recommended.
  • Which version and edition include Turkish localization (the Nilvera integration for e-invoicing) could not be verified; please confirm.
How-to

How to connect Odoo to WhatsApp.

  1. 01

    Identify version and plan

We find out your Odoo version, hosting type (Online, Odoo.sh, self-hosted) and plan. Since external API access depends on the plan, this information sets the roadmap.

  2. 02

    Choose the access route

Together we choose based on the access route the program offers: JSON-2 on current releases, XML-RPC/JSON-RPC on older ones. Available models and fields are checked on your database's documentation page.

  3. 03

    User, permissions and testing

A separate bot user is created with only the required read permissions. A read-only test is first run on partner records, then on invoice and order models.

  4. 04

    Go live

The API key is stored securely and renewed before it expires. If legacy interfaces are in use, the move to the newer API is planned separately.

FAQ

Questions on your mind, in brief.

The most common questions about setup, software and security.

Can’t find your answer?Write to us and we will reply the same day. Contact us
01Which API is used to connect to Odoo from outside?

In current releases, the recommended route is the External JSON-2 API, which works with an API key. Older releases use XML-RPC or JSON-RPC. These legacy interfaces are planned for removal in later releases; check the current documentation.

02Does every Odoo plan include external API access?

No. According to Odoo's documentation, data access through the external API is available only on Custom plans. You should confirm your plan's scope with your Odoo account manager or partner.

03Is the method different for Odoo Online and Odoo.sh?

The documentation does not describe a separate API for these environments; the same interfaces are used with the relevant server address. On Odoo Online, XML-RPC needs a local password, and the database must be specified when several exist.

04How do we get an API key in Odoo?

It is created in the user preferences under account security, by entering a description and a duration. The key is shown only once at creation. A separate user holding just the required permissions is recommended.

05What if Odoo is offline or slow?

The customer is told that the information is not available right now and the conversation is handed to your team. No answer is made up from old data.

06How long does setup take?

A single flow (for example stock and price enquiries) is usually live within days; wider setups are added step by step. Setup is remote, anywhere in Turkey.
